Please help! The heating element in my dishwasher is flaking, chunks are coming off every time I run a load, and I don't know what to do, I've never heard of this before. What do I do? Can I replace the heating element myself? If not is it worth it to get it repaired or should I just buy a new machine?

A model number may help others help you.

Does sound like the element needs replacing.
Just check that it is the ceramic element coating that is flaking off and not soap/calcium reside on the outside of the element itself.

If it is the element, I would not use the machine till it is replaced.

Most element replacements are fairly straight forward but you may have to pull the unit out from under the counter.
