Jenn-Air start light not turning on, touch panel or control board?

My start button won't light up when you push it but all the other lights will. I tripped the breaker and turned it back on about 4 or 5 times now hoping for divine intervention. I have taken the door apart and everything looks fine of course. I did find a bug fried in between the two first leads on the right hand side of the control board, but aside from that, I am at a loss. I thought about buying both the push button control panel and the control board and possibly sending one back when I got it fixed. Does anyone have any ideas, what the problem could be?

William,

The first thing I would do is check the door switches for continuity and properly engagement when the door is locked.

Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for JENN-AIR JDB1100AWS Dishwasher - Undercounter | AppliancePartsPros.com

Here is a tech sheet which may come in handy.

I would check the start switch and others with a meter.
This will tell you it is OK.

Also would not hurt to try the following
Connector Cleaning / Checking
Unplug the unit
Open it up
Remove the ribbon cable from the keypad to the control board at the control board.
Clean the edge connector.
If it is the type where there is not a connector just the insulation is removed, it can be cleaned with a pencil eraser. Do not use an ink eraser as it is too abrasive.
Check the tracks in the ribbon cable for hairline cracks. A magnifying glass helps here.
Would not hurt to clean the connector on the board. Use electronics contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol and a tooth brush. Be gentle and do not reconnect till all the solvent evaporates.
Reconnect everything and give it a try.

Ok, when I test the door it has continuity on the power side open or shut. Neutral continuity is off when door open and on when door shut. Power is still connected. What now?

Oh I see denman's post and I will try that right now...

PRAISE JESUS CHRIST FOREVER! DENMAN is the man! Boy you sure have made me and my wife happy today. I did exactly as you said I used rubbing alcohol and dried it with a hair dryer. Wow it is running in the background right now. This is so wonderful, I was going to have to sell one of my tools to get the parts for the dishwasher. Times have been bleak lately and would have cost me $160 for the touchpad, $120 for the computer and then I would have put it all in and it still wouldn't have worked or worse yet jiggling it around might have made it so it did work and I would have thought I fixed it.

I want to thank you so much for your help! YOU ARE AWESOME! :):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):) :):):):):):):):):):):):)

hello I have a somewhat similar problem. But I'm thinking its the touchpad. For the longest time we were only able to use one "mode" for washing dishes and none of the other buttons worked at all. Then suddenly one day the entire panel went dead. No lights no nothing. There is power to the dishwasher i confirmed.

The fact that for a good year none of the other lights/ functions except for one worked for the longest time makes me believe it is a control panel issue would you agree??

Please start a new thread using "Post New Topic" be sure to include the make and model number, this will inprove your odds of getting an answer that is applicable to your unit.

Many units have a thermal fuse that may have blown

start button not coming on

We have tried the alcohol and are receiving 10,000ohms across the start/cancel terminals on the back of the control board when the button is pushed. Which indicates a good connection at the ribbon connector, and that the button bar is operating correctly.

I had exactly the same problems with my Jennair dishwasher JDB1105AWS. The start button and the delay button would not work but the cycle selection buttons would work and light up. This went on for more than a day. There had been a thunderstorm and the power had flickered off a few times.

I did turn the breaker off for a good 1/2 hour or so but no luck. it still didn't work.

Then a miracle happened. I tried it again that evening ... and it started working.

Now dishwasher is working fine. I suspect a transient electrical charge that discharged over time and the circuit was able to recover. But who knows.

Hope this helps someone else.
