Need Help with Defrost Issue on Refrigerator!
Model Number: GSS22SGMBS Brand: GE Age: 5 - 10 years
Hi! I bought a used GE side by side refrigerator about 1.5 months ago. Model # GSS22SGMD BS. It has been a pain ever since I bought it! After about a week of having it, I noticed it wasnt as cool as it was and the fan wasnt running to circulate air from the freezer to the fridge. It has a 2 month warranty so I called out the guy.....what he found was frosted over coils so he replaced the heater lamp and defrosted my coils with a hair dryer. So it ran good for about a week, but then I noticed the same problem recurred. I called him out again and he said that it must be the motherboard. He replaced that, but once again....the problem is back. What do I do?! I asked him could it be the timer or the thermostat but he acts like replacing the motherboard should have fixed all that. Any suggestions?! I am so afraid I am going to get stuck with this cruddy refrigerator as my warranty ends in less than 2 weeks! And he acts like he doesnt want to dump any more $$ into my unit. Please help!

well he is half right, replacing the motherboard would fix any timer issues, but not thermostat problems...that is an independent system. I would have him check the defrost thermostat (located on the evaporator coil), this is a ge side by side and there is only two different types of defrost heaters available, but if he put the wrong one on then it would have burned out almost instantly hen it went into defrost, so have him check it again. If it is frosted up again then it is certainly a defrost issue, and there is only 4 things that could cause that...The motherboard-the defrost thermostat-the defrost heater-and the freezer fan, unless it is a really high end unit then it could have a damper that is controlled by the board and a damper motor. that is about all

Thanks Tony! I am calling the guy back tomorrow and will discuss this with him.....I am clueless on all this so having your insight is a big help! I will update soon with how it all goes!
