My dishwasher soap dispenser compartment opens but when the cycle is complete some of the detergent is still in the compartment or slightly below it and the dishes are not fully clean.

Start the troubleshooting from verifying water level inside the dishwasher. Water should be at a level where it just comes in contact with the heating element. Check all filters for blockage. Check upper and lower spray arms for blockage of water ports or cracks. Check for proper rack loading to avoid interference with spray arms during wash action.
