Default GE Dishwasher Losing Water During Cycle
Model Number: GSD4060N00SS   Brand: GE   Age: 5 - 10 years

Hello! My 6 yr old GE Dishwasher (GSD4060N00SS) is draining most of it's water during the normal wash cycles, so the dishes aren't getting clean, and the soap isn't dissolving.

I put it into service mode, and went through the operations, and everything seems to work normally except operation #9, which is listed as 'Auxiliary Pump / Drain Solenoid'. When I select this, I hear a fairly loud buzzing sound for a few seconds, and I can see the solenoid engaging, but the water doesn't drain. On the other hand, if I run the 'activate water valve' operation, it fills the basin to the correct level (about 3/8") above the bottom of the float cover, and the water stays at that level without draining. Then, within a few seconds of engaging the 'main pump' operation, the water level has drained to almost nothing, and certainly not enough to circulate.

I've already cleaned everything, and checked for clogs in all tubing, and screens, water valve, etc. I also replaced the impeller assembly because the chopper arm had fallen off due to worn out threads.

I've also tested the function of the float switch with a multimeter, and I measured all of the other components resistance, and everything seemed to be within spec. The only possible exception being the drain solenoid, which measure 33 ohms, rather than the 40 listed on the schematic. This number dropped into the 20's when I manually engaged the plunger. I'm thinking 33 ohms is probably fine since the solenoid seems to be engaging normally, and it's not THAT far off 40..... but I really don't know since I'm not a dishwasher tech!

The dishwasher has been working well for several years, and it seems to be in good shape apart from this issue, so I'd like to get it back up and running. Any suggestions on what might be wrong, and/or how to test/repair it?

Thanks!

Matt
