My Maytag dishwasher Model MDB7749AWW2 (4 years old) had three separate failures all at about the same time. One symptom that it has had for a couple of years was that the wash-dry-clean lights were so dim that it was hard to tell which one was on, but otherwise everything has been working. Then recently the Start button stopped working. It would blink a few times, then nothing. I quickly learned that this is a symptom of a defective door latch switch. However, there seemed to be more to it. After a diagnostic cycle was run, then the start button would start a wash--one time only. After washing that way for a few washes, strange things started happening with the control panel indicator lights during the wash. The steam clean light would come on at times, even though I had not selected that feature. One of the delay hours lights was always on, even though I have never used that feature. And the cancel light would flicker on at times. Also, the detergent door stopped popping open. I decided to begin by replacing the control panel. That fixed all of the problems with the lights. The correct lights are on and the others are off. Moreover, the wash-dry-clean lights now illuminate as brightly as the others. However, I still had the problem with the start button not working; also I noticed that the clean light never went out, even when the door was closed. And the detergent door still did not open. Next I replaced the door latch. That fixed the problems with the start button not working and the clean light not going off. However I still have the one problem that the detergent door does not open. It opens ok manually so it's not a problem with the door itself. What do I need to replace to fix the detergent door not opening? Why would so many different things go wrong all at once?
