Brand : Kenmore
Model : 665.13743K603
Stock : 13743K
Type : 575-0

Problem : will not start wash cycle

Clues:
- Control panel has been flaky for a while. Buttons on left side stopped working long ago,
Buttons on right side worked until recently.
- Pressing High Temp, Heated Dry, High Temp, Heated Dry will cause unit to initiate
reset / test cycle sequence.
- In test cycle, unit will pull in some water, but does not appear to spray it,
then drain the water, and then stop the test cycle and turn on all panel lights
- After test cycle, the heating element is very warm
- If I manually dump a gallon of water into the unit before initating test cycle, water is present
on top rack, leading me to believe the unit is spraying during test. Water is drained during test.
- Water is reaching the inlet (I removed the hose & checked)
- The grinder screen is clean & flat (I removed it & cleaned out some gunk and 1 apple stem)

Things that work:
- drain
- spray
- release detergent container door
- release rinse agent

Are there any other key sequences I can try that will generate a diagnostic code or something similar?

Should I call a tech or order a new panel, control board, or something else? Maybe the inlet valve or associated sensor?
(pardon my terminology, I'm new to this)

thanks!!
