Default Drain & Wash Impeller Kit Installation
Model Number: KUDS24SEWH1   Brand: Kitchen Aid   Age: 5 - 10 years

Dishwasher has developed leak that appears to be the result of water getting past the motor shaft seal. Plan to purchase a drain & wash impeller kit to fix the problem. Was wondering if I need to also purchase the pump centering tool for this operation.

Before you do any repairs I need you to check if the motor bearing are not damaged by water leaking inside.

If the motor is more noisy then usual - the whole pump & motor assembly has to be replaced.

If the motor is fine and you are going to fix the pump I would recommend to buy the centering tool to insure the proper installation of the bottom seal.

- The part number for the drain & wash impeller kit is AP3115180

- The part number for the pump & motor assembly is AP3776341

- The part number for the pump housing centering tool is AP2908817

Here are the break down diagrams for the Kitchen Aid dishwasher Model KUDS24SEWH1

Gene-

Thanks for the reply back. The motor sounds fine and the leak has not been there long. It started after I had opened it to see why it was leaving water at the end of the cycles, thought it was the impeller but turned out to be a blocked check valve. Apparently when I was attempting to remove the first impeller I did something to a seal and thus my desire to replace the shaft seal. By the way, is there a trick to removing that screw that holds the impeller?

Sometimes the impeller has to be broken in pieces and the same about the second impeller.

I use a sharp wood chisel to bust the impeller and limit a lot of pounding on the pump shaft.
