my start button on my gu2500xtpbo whirlpool dishwasher is intermittent. Now I have to use the end of a spoon to press on it in the center of the start button to get it to come on, as just pressing with my fingers wont make contact. (five years old) Is my control board worn out? It really runs fine once it is turned on.

Sounds like the keypad (panel control) is toast. Item 1 in the "Control panel" section.
To check this you can use a meter and the info in the tech sheet.
