The handle on my Maytag dishwasher, model MDB7709AWB2, has broken and I'd like any suggestions you may have on how to replace and any other issues to watch for while replacing.

The parts from the broken handle fell inside the door so they will need retrieved.

Also I am wondering whether the handle/latch has been working correctly from the time I originally purchased the dishwasher. Until it broke I was not aware there was a "handle" on the dishwasher. It appeared to have a "grip" area that you just grabbed and pulled on to open the door on the dishwasher. Nothing moved, but as I have been looking at parts and found the handle and latch I am wondering if these should have been moving parts?
