Question Whirlpool Duet Washer won't turn on
Model Number: WFW9200SQ00   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 1 - 5 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

I have a Whirlpool Model #WFW9200SQ00 and have had it for less than 2 years. I bought it from Lowes and called them to get it repaired and they sent a repairman. Since it was more than 1 yr. the warranty was out. The problem is that it won't turn on when you press the Power button. The repairman checked a few things and called someone at Sears repair center and told him the symptoms and then checked a few more things and they decided the door switch was the problem. The repairman didn't have any parts for the washer even though we had to set up an appointment and gave him the Manufacturer and Model Number and had to wait a week to get him out here. He had a door switch sent out here the following Tuesday by UPS and returned on Thursday to install it and it didn't fix it. He said the CCU was the problem since the door switch didn't fix it and the CCU would cost $400 but he said he'd take the door switch back and send a check for the $100 I had paid for that. I told him I wasn't gonna spend $400 for a CCU as I'd only paid $600 for the washer to start with. I had already seen the CCU at your web site for $268.85 so I bought a CCU from you (Order Date: 10/1/2009 Order Number: 845739) to try to fix the problem and installed it myself. Nothing's changed. I now have $129 in a service call to a repairman that knew no more about it than I do plus $100 for the door switch if he doesn't send the money back and $268.85 plus shipping to you guys and still have the same problem. When you press the Power on button all it does is give 3 quick audible dings. I can lock the controls and unlock them and can get the maintenance codes by pressing the Water Temp button for 3 seconds and release for 3 sec. and press and release for total of three times. All the led's light up even around the knob, then it displays the codes C:00 - Ding - C:00 - Ding - C:00 - Ding - U:01 - Ding - U:00 - Ding - U:00 - Ding - C:00 - Ding - n:00 - Ding - off - Ding - C:00 and stops till you press Pause/Cancel. What else can the problem be?
Thanks for any help you can give.
Tommy Hall

Default Did you ever find a solution?

Hello Tommyhal,

I have the exact same problem, I believed the locking mechanism was the issue, however I replaced it and the machine kept doing the same.

Did you ever find a solution to your problem? I checked my connections and nothing seems to be damaged, the CCU seems to be working or else the diagnostics would not run (well it's what I am led to believe). Please post any other info you may have,

Thanks.

I replaced the CCU and the door switch and neither had any effect on the problem or the codes. I returned the CCU and door switch for refund and as of yet have done no more. We had cheched every voltage, wires for continuity and connections and have found nothing. One tech responded that possibly the new CCU was bad, but like you say, I get all diags. and the only error is "door switch" and if it sits long enough after running diags. we get a 71 code that says User Interface to CCU not communicating? I'm ready to bust it up and get a mechanical machine. I still have a Fisher-Paykel that's fine after replacing a leaking pump 2 yrs ago, when I bought this headache.

Tommy, Last night I got the exact same symptons you cited in your original post (down to the series of codes "C00" etc.). From what I had read on various sites/posts, it seems that loose connectors are the main culprit. After spends 10s of minutes wiggling various connectors, my washer came back to life (it's doing the first load now so who knows how long it will last). The last connectors that I manipulated seemed to be the set of 4 (3 white, one green) at the end of the electronics cluster at the front right of the machine (as you look at it with the top cover off. I have no idea if this is a coincidence or not.

FWIW, I had the F70 error code before it started failing to power up at all. I got this error code very soon after I fist got the machine 2 years ago. The service tech unplugged/replugged a few connectors, it started working, and he pronounced it something that had wiggled loose in shipping process. I was dubious but it did continue to work until last night. Seems like a problem with the overall design if things can wiggle loose on a device that is intended to have a lot if vibration and motion in the first place!!

HTH, Mike

Default Whirlpool Duet Washer F70 Error Code

We've owned a Whirlpool Duet Washer (WFW9200SQ00) for about 3 years. We started getting the F70 error code intermittently about 6 months ago and it seems to progressively be getting worse. Unplugging the unit for a few minutes resets the error, but it comes back about every 2nd or 3rd load causing my wife a lot of frustration and with 4 kids, our laundry was backing up. After reading several Forum's, I found the F70 error code indicates a "heartbeat" communication error between the various electronic boards inside the washer and the consensus seems to be the most likely culprit is the Motor Control Unit (MCU) board. Before spending nearly $250 for a replacement board (Whirlpool Part Number 8183196) with no guarantee that it would fix the problem, I decided to take the board out of the machine and inspect it. What I found is the connector for the communication (the connector with three blue wires) on this board is a very unreliable connector that uses the edge of the printed circuit board on one side of the connection instead of a real connector soldered to the board. In addition, the fit of this connector seems to loose to make a good connection. I noticed a little bit of corrosion on the board contacts which I cleaned with rubbing alcohol and a pencil eraser. After re-installing the cleaned board we've done several loads with (keeping my fingers crossed) no errors. I am still concerned about the reliability of this connection. Because of it's location, this board is subject to a fair amount of vibration and because of the loose fit I'm concerned that this issue will only come back over time. I've already decided that if the error comes back I will solder wires to the contacts on the board to provide a more robust connection. It's a shame that you can spend well over $1,000 on a top of the line washer, and in order to save $.10 Whirlpool decided to use a very poor connector in a critical area. It makes you wonder where else did they skimp to save a few pennies?!! Our next washer will not be a Whirlpool, and next time will not get a high end washer with all the bells and whistles.

Default Whirlpool Duet Washer F70 Error Code

Dave the information is correct on the situation you described above. The machine gives an F70 Error Code after it runs through the diagnostic program and you wait for a few minutes. I tried troubleshooting it myself like TommyHal did, however after the first attempt I gave up and hired two companies to come and repair it.

First one wasn't certified by Whirlpool, but he did mention that many electronic parts inside the washer have warranty for a period of 24 months after the purchase date, you just have to pay for the labor. He was unable to fix it. I then hired A&E Factory Service, they charged a flat rate fee and they are certified by whirlpool and did not have to pay for parts since they have a contract or something with whirlpool.

In my case the company ended up replacing the front panel controllers (both of them) which fixed it (all in all it might have been the cable being loose or corroded like Dave mentioned), however before they figured this out, they replaced the CCU and the motor controller.

The machine was a pain to diagnose and it took them three tries to get it right, but the flat rate fee and the parts under warranty made it bearable. Hope your still within two years TommyHal, if you need more info on what i went through whirlpool let me know and also A&E appears to be a big company and they might offer service in your area.

Just to clarify, even after they replaced the CCU and the MCU, I still kept getting the three beeps and the F70 Error... the fix was replacing the front controller boards (where the knobs and buttons are). check your connections also, and that they are in the proper slot. Hope it helps someone...

Update on F70 Code - After cleaning the contacts on the MCU, we got a few loads with no F70 error. Unfortunately after 4-5 loads the F70 error came back so I soldered the communication wires onto the MCU board. Again did a few loads before the F70 Error again came back. Based on lightenfx's suggestion, I'm next going to look at the connectors on the front controller boards. Hoping to get by without the need for an expensive replacement board from Whirlpool......I'm on a mission, will keep you up to date!!!

I have the exact same issues as Tommyhal with my Kenmore Elite He3t ... where you able to find a solution?

I bought the door latch system, installed myself ... nothing happend. Took out front panel, moved all connectors, used an air pump to push any dirt away, and still nothing ... same issue ... 3 beeps every time I push the power button. When I run the diagnostic cycle it stops at "c:00" ... no idea what else to do ...

Please help! I'm running out of options and money as well.

After contacting lowes back in Sept last year, they told us our warranty had expired and we requested a repairman anyway. They sent us one and he knew less than I did about the problem. Changed the door switch after a week wait to no satisfaction, said he would get us a ccu for $400. I ordered one from AppliancePartsPros and installed it for $182 or so and it made no difference. They allowed a return for full credit. I had another independent repairman check it and he couldn't find the problem either.
As my wife was looking for a coconut cake recipe, she found the Lowes reciept (her filing system) with proof we had purchased the 4 year extended warraty.
She called the number on the warranty and couldn't get anyone to talk to. Press 1 for this 2 for that, etc. I decided to pay a visit to the lowes that had said our warranty was out. The Customer Service lady tried to get through to the warranty department and couldn't over and over until I said that maybe I should have our lawyer handle this. Magically, she pressed the right button and was speaking to a person. Since we now had proof, she got a serviceman to come and check the machine the following Tues. She also gave us a fax number and all the list of requirements to get our money back from the first serviceman. We immediately sent all required info along with a copy of our reciept and this has been 14 days , no reply yet. Anyway the new serviceman from another place than the first diagnosed the problem as a bad Motor Control Board and ordered one and a week and 2 days returned and replaced the board and it now works!!! He diagnosed it by removing the wire connector from the motor control board to the CCU and the washer turned on normal with no error codes. Of course it wouldnt run because of the motor disconnected.
This has been an experience, leaves me wondering about Lowes, The warranty company, the first repairman and the whole thing smells of a rotten, but legal, scam. Just my feelings!! If you do get new appliances, for sure buy the extemded warranty for as long as possible, and for sure don't misplace the reciept and warranty info, because they are counting on that!!! Good luck to all who have an appliance problem. On another note, we have a Sears refridgerator that quit and had the reciept at hand and they snapped to and repaired the thing pronto, well two weeks because of waiting to get parts.
