all 4 stove top ignitors start firing during cooking and then won't stop when burners are turned off. Happens randomly but often. Stops when I unplug it; starts up again if I plug it in within a minute. Stove was new in 1992.

Followed manual and GE website instructions: gapped electrodes with a dime, checked & cleaned burner covers, wiped off electrodes. No major spills or signs of moisture.

GE hotline thought it might be low gas pressure, but all my flames are blue and sizable (although 2 on the right side are smaller than the other side, even after cleaning hole in center of burner).

What should I do next? Have not found any step by step diagnostic procedures for this problem. Suggestions from this website indicate I should clean electrodes with a wire brush, clean ignitors with alcholol, and then take top off and look for shorts. I will have to drill out and replace some of the screws around the burner base that have broken.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
