My Whilpool dishwasher overheated, started smoking and smelled like burnt plastic. Just started last night. Any ideas of what would cause this?:confused:

Have you looked in the bottom of the DW to be sure something i.e. plastic bowl, lid, etc. has not fallen through and is contacting the heating element?

Yeah the first thing I looked at. When I opened the door it was smokey.
