Default Fridge not cooling, freezer is fine
Model Number: FRT18P5AW4   Brand: Frigidaire   Age: More than 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

Hi,

My Frigidaire fridge has stopped cooling but the freezer is working fine. This happened 2 weeks ago also. The doors have not been left open in both cases. Last week I dismantled the freezer. The fan was still working properly. No ice was blocking it and there was continuity. The damper had ice blocking it, so I let it thaw. I plugged it back in and let it run for a day. There was no change. I then checked the continuity on the defrost timer. There was zero. I bought a new one and installed it. The fridge was back up and running properly. For a week. Now, I have the same issue today. I wanted to get some advice before I started taking it apart and checking out what the issue is now. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi.

Check please two things:

If the condensation drain is clogged and frozen.
If the door seals are good and there is no air getting inside the fridge.

Here are the breakdown diagrams and Cabinet parts for Frigidaire FRT18P5AW4 - AppliancePartsPros.com

Post the results.

Simon.

Thanks for the advice. Fridge door seals seem solid. Condensation tube was clear of ice. Damper was again frozen up, so no air was passing from freezer to fridge. It was the defrost timer last time. I don't have time to check it now. What do you think it could be? Again, thanks much for your info and advice.

Grace and Peace,
Pat W

Hi.

You should check if the condensation water doesn't get into the damper and then freeze. If that is the case - check the drip pan and adjust the front legs to rase the front compair to the back.
Put some vaseline around the door seals and let it run. See if that helps.

Default another possible simple repair

A lot of times I have found when cooling settings are set too high, for instance in a refrigerator or on an air conditioner, someone has put them all the way to the coldest setting and they are not as cold as they should be. I put them on half way, and they have always cooled down. In fact
yesterday, a refrigerator that my granddaughter said was not running cold
enough and we had brought it here and plugged it in 2 weeks ago, I checked yesderday and it was barely cool. I checked the temperature
settings and, sure enough, they were maxed out. I put refrigerator and
freezer settings to half way and put a qt. margarine tub of water in it and
today it is frozen solid. Good luck.
