Start/Cancel key no longer working in my old Kenmore dishwasher.
Is it possible to just replace the touchpad? (instead of replacing the entire control panel). Is it possible to remove (glued?) the old touchpad from the panel and replace it?

thank you!

Your model number seems to be missing several digits at the end on of it.
Please check it.

The below is a guess on the part. Click on the picture for more info.

If my guess is correct then the answer is yes.
Often heating up the old keypad with a hair dryer will loosen up the glue making it easier to remove. Then clean off any residue on the panel before installing the new one.

This problem could also be a bad control board.
It is best to check the keypad outputs to ensure that it is bad switch otherwise it is a gamble.
You may have to gamble if a keypad wiring diagram is not available for this unit.

One thing to note is that most keypads are matrix type so if it is a bad connection 2 or 3 keys will not work. If you have a number of keys that do not work you may want to try the following.
Connector Cleaning / Checking
Unplug the unit
Open it up
Remove the ribbon cable from the keypad to the control board at the control board.
Clean the edge connector. Use electronics contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol.
If it is the type where there is not a connector just the insulation is removed, it can be cleaned with a pencil eraser. Do not use an ink eraser as it is too abrasive.
Check the tracks in the ribbon cable for hairline cracks. A magnifying glass helps here.
Would not hurt to clean the connector on the board. Use electronics contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol and a tooth brush. Be gentle and do not reconnect till all the solvent evaporates.
Reconnect everything and give it a try.

Hi denman Thank you!

Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for the tip about the hair dryer: indeed it helped to remove the old keypad.

I agree with your observations that the issue could be something else. What I failed to tell was that a couple of other settings were not working either. So it still could be related to the keypad.

Anyhow: keypad replaced and all the functions working great.

Best.

I have a similar Kenmore dryer with random beeping and touchpad stuck on one setting (& 23 minutes!). Ordered a replacement which will take 2 weeks with Sears' snappy service. (I can speed that up maybe a few days by coughing up $35 or $45 extra for shipping--too bad amazon doesn't have the part!)

Anyway a possibly useless or possibly helpful tip for living in the meantime. I couldn't change the dryer setting at all--highest heat not the best for some delicate stuff. I used a loop of package tape--sticking it onto the stuck panel select button and then pulling it off--to deselect that setting. Then was able to set it normally.

Not a permanent solution, but maybe enough to last till the replacement part drags itself to my door.
