Tonight I noticed the dishwasher was flashing 7 times (I believe this is the code for a heater element issue). I did a reset/diagnostics procedure I found on-line (open door and within 3 seconds press Hi Temp Wash/Heated Dry/Hi Temp Wash/Heated Dry). All lights lit and now the dishwasher is running. However: water is luke warm. The heater element is cool to the touch, and there's water leaking from somewhere onto the floor (slow leak). Any idea as to what's going on, what's likely leaking, etc.? No leak prior to tonight,

Hello,

Remove the toe panel and pinpoint the water leak. Post the results.

The model number you posted is incomplete. Verify and repost it please.

Full Model # is 665.17263401.. The leak is located just left of center about half way back. Its leaking from a fairly large plastic housing. From the parts list I have I'm guessing its the motor assembly. The error code is gone, so I'm assuming the heater element isn't really bad. I did clean the sump assembly as best I could (lots of build-up, the strainer was almost completely blocked). I couldn't get the grinder housing to break free so that doidn't get cleaned. The leak tonight seemed larger (I pulled the kick panel after cleaning the sump, at times there was a small steady stream coming down).

One other question for whoever responds. Since the dishwasher is 8 years old, is it worth fixing assuming I do the repair myself,

Looks like it's leaking through the motor mounting. I would recommend to replace the whole pump and motor assembly. It will make repair much easier and much more reliable, especial because of the build-ups. You may want to check the heating element and the hi-limit thermostat (under the dishwasher) for continuity to make sure they are good. The price for the pump and motor assembly is $155.38.

You decision to fix or replace the dishwasher should be based on the dishwasher condition and price for a new dishwasher.

Gene, would you have part #s so I know what to buy? I'm assuming this includes the sump? I started removing the dishwasher tonight. Looks like its impossible to remove the sump otherwise. I was able to get it loose, but could not lift all the way out...
