Default Kitchenaid leaking near bottom of door
Model Number: KUDR25SHBL1   Brand: Kitchen Aid   Age: 5 - 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

After the last Rinse cycle, I'm noticing a build-up of sudsy water on the top of the bottom front section (the 6" high section with insulation located just beneath the door). The water doesn't appear during any of the wash cycles or the first two rinse cycles, but when the 3rd Rinse LED lights, I start to see it.

Yesterday, I changed the upper door seal because it had some worn spots and some build-up near those spots. Ran the unit last night and it did exactly the same thing. The bottom door seal just seems to be a hard plastic piece that does not seem to be deformed or cracked. I read somewhere (maybe here) that the upper spray arm can cause a bad spray that can get past the door seal. I removed mine and didn't see any obvious cracks or anything.

When I pulled the front of the door off, I noticed water pooling at the bottom near what is described in the parts lists as a "stiffener". It was the same sudsy water that I think is dripping through the bottom door screw holes. How is it getting there?

I don't mind changing parts and enjoy fixing things, but I need some advice as to what check next.

Hello,

It looks to me that the problem you are having is more chemical than mechanical. The water inside the dishwasher not suppose to be sudsy at any circumstances.

There are two very common things what could cause suds in the water: too much or spilled rinse aid (if you used one) or a dishwashing liquid somehow got into the dishwasher. It could happen if you rinse dishes with such soap prior to load it in the dishwasher.

Gene.

Gene,

Thanks for the reply. My wife says she put some rinse aid in the d/w several weeks ago, and may have spilled a tiny bit pouring it into the dispenser, but nothing major. Neither of us has put dish soap directly into the d/w, but I occasionally prewash dishes with baked-on food, so I suppose some small amount could get in there. As I've been troubleshooting, when I open the unit during drying, there is a small film of suds on the bottom of the tub, slowly draining towards the pump. These are very small bubbles and not thick, but still definitely suds. I assumed this must be normal, as I don't usually look closely at the bottom of the tub.

I should have mentioned something else. It seems that the cups in the upper tray are not rinsing well. Finding lots of small pieces of material, like coffee grinds on items in the upper rack. Don't really know how long the leaking has been happening, but the dirt on the upper rack has been noticeably worse in recent weeks. Is there some failure (upper arm?) that might be indicated by both of these issues?

Tim

Hi Tim,

Very likely there are hard water deposits build up in the dishwasher. I would recommend to use the Dishwasher Magic to clean the dishwasher.
