Unhappy Maytag WU 482 Problem
Model Number: WU 482   Brand: Maytag   Age: More than 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com
I have an 'older' Maytag dishwasher WU 482. It has been working fine until recently. Currently it will not drain and will not work in any mode except low energy mode. When I turn the dial to other settings the timer runs (ticks) and the dial rotates thru the different cycles. I can hear it click as it enters a new cycle, but nothing works until it gets to the Low Energy cycle, then it fills up and goes thru a wash cycle. It finishes the wash cycle but does not drain. The dry cycle still works but the tub is full of water. The motor is working and the belt is in good condition. I recently replaced the drain switch fixture and the unti had been working for about a week after this replacement. I believe my kids were playing with the dial, cranking it around. I opened up the control panel and checked the wires and the connections, all look good, I did not do a voltage check yet. Could this be (1) an implerer/pump issue (2) timer motor or (3) timer board and motor unit. Is there a way to test the motor or board? I would like to keep the unit since the tub is in very good shape and is steel vs. plastic. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Default Maytag WU482 pump out

We have the same dishwasher and had a similar problem. This model uses a dual-direction pump with a soft rubber impeller. Over time, the impeller swells and begins to drag on the inside of the pump housing. Since the impeller has a swept look, it runs fine in wash mode but digs in to the housing during the drain, dramatically increasing the load on the motor. Depending on the condition of components, the complete wash cycle may not complete before the motor overheats and the thermal protection stops it. It was a very simple matter of replacing the impeller (actually, a complete pump kit) and it works perfectly again. This is a great machine.

Default nitronorm

Hey I think it's your timer on the drain cycle lost contact in the timer burned out.. If you are handy you can check this out with an volt the pump runs on was to wash the other way to drain.
