When my dishwasher finishes filling and the motor kicks on, a small wave of water sloshes out of the front under the door.

The problem seems similar to the thread at http://forum.appliancepartspros...-under-float-switch.html

I leveled the dishwasher, cleaned out the float switch, and that didn't fix the problem. If anything, it's getting worse.

Following what was suggested in the other thread, I tore down the innards all the way to the drive shaft. I think I pulled out about half a box of soap and hard water deposits.

One of the big parts in there, the Pump Filter, was completely clogged. I'm a bit surprised it was working at all like that. With some persistence, I managed to back-flush the filter screens and get that part about 99% empty and flowing freely.

I put it all back together without any new problems. Unfortunately, the original problem got worse, if anything. The dishwasher is nice and clean inside, but I need to figure out how to make it stop sloshing over when it starts up!

More on the float switch: It is working, however the float is not floating when the fill stops. The machine is filling for exactly 1:36. Suspecting the slosh could be caused by having too little water in the tub when the motor starts, I tried pouring a bunch of hot water into the tub and then allowing the float to set the fill level. With the full tub, I get the same amount of slosh. :(

I ran a cycle with the door panels separated so that I could see the front lip of the tub. The best way I can describe what's happening is not a slosh exactly... the water level on the whole isn't rising over the lip. There's a sputtering, as though a jet of water is aimed straight at the bottom of the door, forcing water to spray up and over the front of the tub. Still not sure what to do about that? All of the parts look normal to me.

I tried adjusting the balance of the bottom sprayer arm a bit, but that didn't fix it either.

I'm having second thoughts after seeing that a replacement wash arm only costs 10% of the original purchase price of this dishwasher.

Could anyone suggest if the wash arm is the best part to replace? Should I get some others at the same time?

My replacement wash arm arrived and I installed it today. I need to run a few cycles to confirm there's no more leaking, but so far so good.

Edit: It leaked on the second load of dishes. The problem follows a pattern where it seems to stop leaking if some days go by between cycles and some of the parts dry out more. But it still only leaks at the beginning of the cycle.

I am having the exact same problems with my Whirlpool dishwasher. It worked fine when we go it new about 16 months ago. This last week it started having these symptoms. Sadly no one has found the solution to the posted problem.

I have also taken the front of the door off. There was a little water in the bottom of the front of the door where the insulation is. I removed both wash arm assemblies, thinking that one of them might be jetting water toward the door. I get about the same behavior. Tub fills, no problem. Motor kicks on and it looks like there is an excess of pressure or a jet aimed at the bottom of the door. A bunch of water comes out briefly -- all from the bottom of the door.

The tub drains fine and no other water leaks during the rest of the cycle. Anyone have any other thoughts?

I was just about resigned to calling an appliance repair specialist, but I'm too stubborn to give up. I found that the vent in the door was completely clogged. We have had problems drying dishes with this dishwasher for most of it's life. Turns out when we cleaned the vent the both problems went away. We can see steam coming out of the vent now! :)
