I purchased this dishwasher thru IKEA as part of a kitchen remodel - it's only redeeming qualities are that the door is stainless and it gave me 20% off the cabinet cost. When it ran before it was loud as hell. Now when I go to start it it fills with water and won't run the main motor. But, it will progress through the rest of the cycle - I hear it fill with water and open the soap dish. Please provide tips on how to troubleshoot.

Follow up: after posting this I looked through some of the similar posts that were linked, and I should add some more details. 1) This dishwasher is located in a vacation home, so it sits idle for long periods of time. 2) I took off the bottom front panel and was not able to get the motor to turn with the power disconnected. 3) When it goes through it's cycle, it attempts to turn the motor, but it doesn't turn.

So here's my question - assuming that the motor is bad and needs replaced, if I go ahead and change it out is there any reason to think this won't happen again given that it will sit idle often?

Hi.

You need to determine if this is the motor or shaft seal, or some foreign object inside the pump.
Remove it and take the motor out. Check if the impeller is not blocked and shaft rotates freely without the impeller.

The impeller kit Part number: 4386996
Part number: 4386996

The motor Part number: 8283457
Part number: 8283457

Here are the breakdown diagrams and 05-Pump and Motor Parts parts for Whirlpool IUD6000WS1 - AppliancePartsPros.com

The fact that you don't use the dishwasher at least once in 2 weeks may result in the seal dry out.

Simon.
