Cycle Timer Sticks in Cycle

Model Number: SMU2046UC/14 Brand: Bosch Age: More than 10 years

My Bosch SMU2046UC/14 Dishwasher will start the wash cycle when you turn the cycle knob to start the wash, however it hangs up mid wash cycle and just runs and runs for several hours without continuing the cycle. Does the timer control need to be replaced or is it something else? If so is this difficult?
