Model Number: KUDK01ILBS2 Brand: Kitchen Aid Age: 5 - 10 years
Hello. About 6 months ago my dishwasher wouldn't clean the top rack of dishes..I figured out that there was no water coming out of the top sprayer, The Chopper Assembly was clogged up.. I pulled it out and cleaned it up, Problem solved...But, every 2 months It does the same same thing even though we try the scrap off the plates before we put them in now but it still clogs up every few months.. My question is, Why did it work fine for over 5yrs, and now it clogs up in a few months?

Very likely the problem is a worn out teeth on the pump impeller and/or chopper. You can try to replace the impeller. In that case you should replace the "O" rings to prevent possible water leak. Whirlpool does not sell them separate so you have to order the volute too. I personally would replace the whole pump & motor assembly to avoid the headache of getting it all together to find out a water leak and noisy motor (very common issue). It's worth to spend more money for much more reliable repair.
