Kitchenaid Superba Leak - stumped
Model Number: KUDS01FLSS1 Brand: Kitchen Aid Age: 5 - 10 years
I feel like my dishwasher is an aging Hollywood starlet and I am a plastic surgeon, having replaced several parts (electronics, pulleys, pump, keypad, gaskets, etc.) and should have a brand new beautiful dishwasher. Unfortunately, it just keeps on having problems and while I don't want to give up on it, this is the last repair I'm doing before getting a new one.
The issue this (this time) is that the flange along the tub wall that holds the door gasket popped off. No problem, I've reattached it with a stainless screw and silicone. The problem is that the door gasket got all torn up before the fix and I noticed a drip on the bottom left corner. Easy fix, I think, get a new door gasket, which I did for $58 (highway robbery for a $2 part).
It seemed the door gasket was too long and I couldn't close the door - it kept popping open. So i cut off the excess gasket, so only an inch or so extends along the left and right on the lower part of the tub. Now it leaks even worse.
Did I make a mistake? Should the 'tails' of the gasket be tucked inside the door? If they hang out in the tub they extend about 5"-6" and there doesn't seem to be a way to secure them and they seems to get in the way of the door and I can't close it. Before I lay out another $58, what should I do?
Thanks,
Craig
