I replaced the inner door liner on my dishwasher, and moved all the attached parts from the old one to the new. Everything is working except the door to the detergent dispenser. The problem isn't with the latch, it's just getting the small barrel spring installed so that it pushes the door open. I put the long plastic hinge pin through the mounting holes in the door liner and through the center of the spring. I then snap the door cover in place (there are four claws that grab the pin). I've tried putting the spring on both ways (center bar up and down), but neither seems to result in any force being applied to the door which just flaps freely. It really used to snap and stay open before.
It seems like the spring has to be pre-tensioned, but I can't see how to do that, and the two short straight pieces at the ends of the spring don't seem able to catch onto anything. Help please.
Part # for spring is AP3083990
