Model Number: GLD4260L00SS Brand: GE Age: 5 - 10 years
My GE dishwasher rarely gets used because there are only two of us. We used it mainly as a draining area after hand washing our dishes. It may sit for a few months without being run. So, when I tried to use it a couple of days ago, it did not work.
I shut the door, pressed normal wash, and then hit the start button. I could hear the water filling up, and then it stopped. After 3 minutes, it drained the water and refilled. Again, it did nothing for 3 minutes, then drained and filled. This time it didn’t do anything for about 8 minutes, all the time the heating element inside was getting hot. At that point I stopped it myself, for fear that it might melt something inside. I have tried different cycles (heavy wash, rinse only, china/crystal, etc) but it always did the same thing. The incoming water temp is above 120F. Any suggestions? Ads By Google Related Models |

I appreciate all of you who viewed my dilemma but could offer no help. I guess it helps to search all over the net to find the right fix. I stumbled upon this remedy by chance. Someone wrote that if the dishwasher fills with water, but does not do anything else (as it was in my case), then drain the unit and remove the bottom spray arm. I then dissolved one package of clear "koolaid" (basically citric acid) in 2 cups of hot water and poured it down the center tube of the spray arm. I let it sit there for about 30 minutes. Then I started the dishwasher, expecting the same routine as before. But, this time the water started spraying out of the spray arms and the dishwasher began going through all of the cycles. So, thank you all out there for viewing this and maybe you can take something away from this.
