I have a whirlpool heavy duty extra large capacity plus washier and the agitator works intermittently. How do I diagnosis the issue and what needs to be replaced? It's about 8 years old and used about 4 times a week.

The model number is LXR9245EQ2.

At first the agitator was making a clicking noise like you could tell it was stuck. It's not making that noise but it's now not really moving at all. I can move it by hand freely but it doesn't did it on it's own.

Hi.

Is it the top portion of the agitator you are talking about or the hole agitator?

Hi.

Pry off the the top cap, remove the 7/16 bolt and pull out the agitator.
Turn the washer on and check if the transmission shaft is moving and you can't stop it by hand.
If the shaft is OK - replace the agitator base. If not - transmission.

The agitator base Part number: 3350830
Part number: 3350830

The transmission Part number: 3360629
Part number: 3360629

Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for Whirlpool LXR9245EQ2 AUTOMATIC WASHER | AppliancePartsPros.com

Thank you. Post the results.

I reran the washer and this happened:

With just water the entire agitator moved. When I put some clothes in it the bottom part spun but the top did not.

Should I still do as you suggested?

Hi.

Now it's completely different picture. The problem is with so called "agitator dogs".
They are located inside the agitator between upper and lower part.

The agitator dogs Part number: 80040
Part number: 80040

Use the video clip for the instructions.

Good luck.

Simon.
