TCO blown 3 times during heavy-duty wash
Model Number: DU940PWKB0 Brand: Whirlpool Age: 5 - 10 years
Our Whirlpool was leaking water from the bottom. Disassembled the door and cleaned the vent in the upper left corner (completed scaled up and blocked).
DW worked fine for a couple of cycles, then TCO blew. Foolishly replaced TCO only (not the wiring with the kit). Blew after another few cycles, during wash of a "Pots & Pans" heavy duty cycle.
So replaced TCO a second time, this time making sure all connections are tight and wires are replaced with the kit. Worked fine for light cycles, then blew again tonight on wash portion the first time we ran Pots & Pans.
I have not yet removed or checked the heater element for resistance. Could the thermostat also be "stuck" so that the heater always run and overheats the DW TCO?
It seems strange to have two problems (clogged vent and whatever this is), so I wonder if I didn't damage something in the door assembly (wiring harness or circuit board), but I know all the connections are tight and good in board area.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am tempted to replace the thermostat and depending on results of the ohmeter, the heater element as well. But the heater seems to work fine, as the DW heats up without problems and cleans just fine.
