Water pressure is constant at the valve, electric power on or off. What does the solenoid do ? Does it open valve to let water in or does it shut water off? I took it apart and can find no device(spring) keep water out until valve is opened by the solenoid. Does the interior construction of the valve come into play here? Inside there is only the solenoid rod/spring and a plastic rubber edged disc in the body of the valve. When I put it back together, water flowed and I had to shut it off at the service valve. What keeps the water out when the machine is shut off?

I took it apart because I was getting overfill. The overfill switch was activating but it was still overfilling and water was getting in to the overfill float tube and leaking onto the floor. Does this confirm a bad water valve?
I could hear the solenoid clicking but---
