Maytag Dishwasher won't start

Currently, my Auto Clean Plus, Heavy, Normal, Light buttons are selectable - but rinse-only is not. When I click any of the buttons that work, Tough Scrub Plus and Heated Dry light up - but I can't de-select them and I can't get hi-temp wash or sanitize or delay hours to light up. And of course I can't get start or cancel/drain to run/light.

When I power-cycle the unit it does drain.

I did open up the door and tested for power at various points - including the door-switch -all positive. When I first took things apart and held the door switches down manually - everything seemed to work - so then I put everything back together and of course it didn't work. So I thought it was the door-switches - I dismanteled everything again but now even if I hold the door-switches manually it still is not working... why did it work the first time I took everything apart?

I also pulled the ribbon-cable from where it connects to the control board and re-attached it.... the cable doesn't looked kinked or damaged in any way.

Everything points to the control board right? But I've read about others that replaced their control board only to still have it not working properly. If the control-board doesn't resolve the issue can I return it? Are there other things to check before ordering the control board?
