Dishwasher apprx 12 yrs old. Left unusued for several months. Was working perefectly last I used. Water fills in then I hear a humming sound. it seems motor is not functioning. I checked the motor and spin the motor fins. it moved freely,OK. So what could be wrong? Also, I smell a bit burning. I noticed that the knob was turning slowly after I turned it on ON position. So, the knob doesn't seem stuck. I turned it off when it did not start. As I recall, the wash cycle used to start immediately after the water filled in.
By the way, I dont readily see the pump or blade when I took the lower panel out. I read one of your replies to someone that refereed to a "blade". Dont know if this could be relevant to my problem.
