Default Dishwasher did not drain, no lights on front panel
Model Number: KUDI01TJBT0   Brand: Kitchen Aid   Age: 1 - 5 years

Dishwasher did not drain. Breaker/quad outlet all OK so Power is fine. Drain is not plugged. The front panel is dead - no lights at all. Open and closed door, no change. Checked overflow switch - appears to be fine but may short across it just to make sure it is not blocking power with open switch. Checked schematic and does not appear drain overflow switch could shut off power. I suspect the door switch might have failed. Seems unlikely while it was running but ???? who knows. Did not find any kind of reset button on pump motor. Schematic shows something called a TCO in drain circuit wiring -maybe the control circuit. If I trace the wires, maybe I could short the door switch and see if the pump motor starts up???? Not sure I can find the right wires. Shows wire color as "T" and "B-W" - I know black white but T is ???? Looks like door switch for this kitchen aid is behind the stainless steel interior front panel with lots of screws.

Some models have an internal fuse up inside the control panel to the right of the door switch. It does not resemble a fuse at all. It looks like a white square box with two wires going to it. TURN BREAKER OFF FOR DISHWASHER. You will have to remove the inner door panel to gain access. Join the wires temporarily, reassemble and close the door. If everthing works that fuse need replacing. Just something simple for you to check to help you out.

You did hit the nail on the head on this one. Removed that upper control panel (plastic pops right off with 4 screws), found the white fuse or what appeared to be what you described, pulled connectors and put it on the ohm meter - wide open connection (no continuity). Soldered a wire over it for now, machine worked fine. I think a piece of food got into pump and may have overloaded it very briefly - works fine now and ordering the new fuse as we speak. Thanks so much for your help - you obviously have very good diagnostic skills and knowledge to boot!!!

If I could only convince my wife how smart I am, maybe we would get along better LOL.
Glad I could help.

Unhappy Weird Dish washer

When i try to turn on my dish washer it makes a humming sound and the heating coil in the bottom heats up. Other than that it doesnt do anything. no water nothing. I checked the water shut off and it is open so i dont know what the deal is.

Sounds to me like your motor is stuck. With the door unlatched, remove the lower kick plate. Get a flat blade screwdriver and on the end of the motor you will see some fins (for cooling) (not sure how to describe them) try turning the motor with the screwdriver by appling pressure to those fins to turn the motor. There is not a lot of room to move the fins. If they dont turn or only move a little the motor is stock and you will have to keep pressure on them and walk them around until the motor turns free. It's kind of hard to describe what to do on the P.C as I've done tons of these for stuck motors. Hope this helps.

Thumbs up Good and bad

You were right about the pump it was stuck. Now that it is unstuck it runs good but still no water. I checked the water shut off and it is open. I will pull a pipe apart and see if there is water but do you have any idea what else could be worng?

Default make sure you are getting water to the dishwasher!!!

Check float and switch to make sure it moves up and down freely. A float stuck in the up position will prevent water from entering. Next cycle the timer (if it's mechanical) and make sure you don't turn past the fill. It's easy to miss the fill when advancing the timer. Last thing is a possible bad water valve.
