I have a 2 yr old Kenmore/Whirlpool dishwasher (model 665.13769k602). The handle/latch on it does not have any "spring action", feels loose, and will not lock into place (thus cannot use dw). I opened the control panel and removed the door latch assembly. There's three plastic parts (actuator latch, latch bolt, handle) and I can't figure out which is broke or needs to be replaced (or maybe the switch needs replacing?). Are there supposed to be springs inside (because I don't see any), or what gives the handle that spring action feel when you pull on it with normal use?

I'm hoping this is an easy fix and I can repair myself.

I now realize how dependent I am on my dw.

Would pictures help anyone? Need more details?

I put it back together and slammed the door shut and it stayed shut, don't know if I will be able to open it when wash cycle is done? Same problem as you!

I have a Whirlpool also that has the same problem. Any advice would be great. I'm unsure as to what part to order and what to do with it once I get it!

I made these repairs on a GE dishwasher, but it sounds like the same issue. Refer to this post that I made with a few photos to go along with the other posters description of the repair. Hope this helps.
