Dishwasher Repair

I opened up the inner door of this dishwasher and found the black plastic/rubber material stuck to the inside bottom of the inner door had broken down and was in pieces. I determined that I need to replace the mastic door - part # AP3964102 - please confirm. Is this one part and how does it fasten to the inner door - by adhesive? What purpose does this part serve?
