Model Number: 665.13832K600 Brand: Kenmore Age: 1 - 5 years
Dear Forum Members and fellow DIY'ers,
I have a Kenmore 665.13832K600 dishwasher that is approximately 3 years old. The upper arms are no longer spinning on the unit. I know this because I placed them at 12 o'clock and started running a cycle. Although water was dripping from them, the arms remained in that position. Thinking the may be a clog I removed the lower spay arm assembly and soil accumulator to clear the trap under it. I removed some debris but nothing that seemed like it should reduce water pressure. I tried to follow the instructions to clean the chopper found in the POINT VOYAGER DISHWASHER repair manual however my unit will not let me lift the inlet protector out, nor did it have the debris protector listed in the previous step. Could this be a Kenmore model difference in the manual? Am I barking up the wrong tree here? What else could be causing the upper two arm not to rotate? Thank you for your help. Most likely the problem is a clogged chopper. The instructions from the manual you referred to are good. You also can use the instructions and troubleshooting from one of our previous posts: whirlpool dishwasher

Gene,
I did read the thread, but obviously not closely enough. But now sure it was meant to come off, I pried it loose. It seemed to be glued there by what appeared to be hardened soap residue. When I removed it inlet protector, I found that the cutter blade lying there along with a retaining ring and a little piece of the white plastic shaft. I pulled at the screen and the rest of the assembly fell apart. What could have caused this? Could it have been the missing “foreign objects protector” (figure 3-21)? I don’t see this part on the sump parts diagram. Also, the screen was very clogged. I surprised any water passed through it. I had the same calcified material that seemed to glue the inlet protector on. Any clue what would cause this? Perhaps the chopper had been off a while; the wife says this is a problem that has slowly gotten worse. I will be purchasing a new chopper assembly, is there anything else I should look for? Thanks for your help.... Priceless. |

Sounds like you have a pretty hard water and, probably the detergent you use is not correct for use with really hard water. After you will put it back together I would recommend to clean the dishwasher with white vinegar. You can learn how to do it and how to choose a right detergent from one of our previous posts: How do I take remove strainer/ Clean heating element?

Thanks again! I will look for a high phosphorus detergent as well as following your instructions about cleaning the unit with vinegar.
What about the missing “foreign objects protector” (figure 3-21)? Is this supposed to be present on the Kenmore? I don’t see this part on the sump parts diagram. |
