Default 2 jenn-air (maytag)ovens no display
Model Number: jjw8530cab   Brand: Jenn-Air   Age: 5 - 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

I have two Jenn-air (maytag ) ovens. Both were purchased new in 2004,and rarely ever used.Of course the digital readouts on both ovens are always on,and show the time. Over a 4-5 year period i noticed the readouts were getting dimmer and dimmer, until they finally both went out. I can still use the ovens, but you are you have to be good at knowing what you are keying in on the pad, becuase you cannot see anything showing up on display as you are keying it in.
I have heard from a appliance repair place in my town, that this is a common problem with these units.
Could you please advise me,on what i should do to repair these ovens, thanks for all your help.

Here are your parts
Replacement parts for JENN-AIR JJW8530CAB WALLOVEN- S/C ELE | AppliancePartsPros.com

Sounds like a display power supply problem on the control board.
You could replace the boards but for a lower cost fix replace the capacitors (can type parts on the control board), see below.
Note the capacitors are electrolytic type so take not where the positive and negative leads are as polarity is important.

Here is the board, click on the picture and a new page will open with a Q&A on this part.

Default 2 jenn-air (maytag)wall ovens,no display

Ok,thanks so much for that diagnoses, and for telling me how to fix it for a lower cost, much appreciated. I own a pawnshop, with my own technician.I will ask him to change out the capacitors, and get back to you if that remedies the problem. thanks so much mike b.

Hi,Denman. I also wanted to let you know,I compared the pix of your clock board picture to my clock board and they look different. So I wanted to know, should I tell my technicion to just change all the capacitors on the board,or will he be able to tell which are bad,and just change those?

I doubt he will be able to tell so I would replace all the electrolytic capacitors.
There are usually only 3 or 4 of them.

Default Dim display Jenn Air model JJW9530CAS

I replace the C3 capacitor 85 uf/35v with a 100uf /35v cap display lit up then the new cap popped and display dimmed out ouver an hr. Should I replace again and replace the other 3 additional capacitors or is ther something I should be checking on the relay board?
Thanks.

I cannot say but it may be worth a try.
Did you make sure that the replacement was installed with the correct polarity?

The schematics for the boards are not available so I am not sure which caps are involved with the display power supply.

It could also be that another component on the board is shot and that is effecting the capacitor by puttong too much load on it.

Default dim display

I had the capacitor that blew replaced and installed again. This time no function but the oven light will work. Before when the cap blew I still had all the functions of oven and could even see very dim clock.

I checked the cap to make sure the tech soldered properly and it was loose... took it back to have it redone and he checked to make sure the board was getting juice.

You'll have to excuse my vagueness as I am not very proficiant with capacitors and eletronic boards. I have a feeling he messed up the contacts wehn putting on latest Capacitor? I can get a whole new display, but don't want it to be a relay or something. I just don'tunderstand how all functions worked with popped capacitor but now nothing works?

Any ideas?

Not sure what "messed up the contacts" means.
If you are a sloppy solderer and short actross acouple connection on the board you may well blow the board.

I just don't understand how all functions worked with popped capacitor but now nothing works?
To be honest either do I.
The reason to replace the capacitor is that it is leaking voltage so there is not enough voltage to drive the display. The lower voltage then causes a dim display.
FYI: The capacitors are electrolytic type basically is is a roll of tin foil with a dielectric between the layers. Over time the dielectric dries out and current can then flow from one layer to the next.

Here is a manual which covers this unit. It is not an easy unit to troubleshoot electrical problems.
http://appliancedigest.com/index.php...ervice-manual/
You have to join the site to download the manual but it is free and this is a very good site for manuals and other info for the appliance repair DIYer.

There is a possibility that a messed up repair could have blown the transformer on the relay board which feeds the 4 volts AC electronics drive and/or the 21 volt display drive voltages.
aA least that is what I think those voltages are used for, cannot really say for sure without a board schematic.
