I'm having a problem (apparently) with the sump-pump gasket - our dishwasher has been leaking from underneath. I had a Kitchenaid/Whirlpool repair guy come out and stated he was 100% confident that the sump pump gasket was the culprit but it would be $300 in labor to repair and only a $20 part. He looked at the issue briefly and didn't install confidence in me. The problem occurs 1-2 minutes into the initial filling of water when the cycle's started. A small, constant drip starts near the middle-right underneath the dishwasher, about 10" back from the front but a few inches in from the right hand side. I know, hard to describe...

From what I've read it sounds like the whole dishwasher needs to be unhooked (unfortunately the electrical was hard-wired into the dishwasher by the previous owner of our house), and the whole sump pump removed in order to replace the gasket. Before I do this I wanted to check with the experts here on the viability of a novice do-it-yourselfer going at it. Here's the part I think I need: WHIRLPOOL Gasket, Pump sump, part number: 8268395

The current gasket looks to be in good shape and doesn't have any visible signs of wear but then again maybe there's a crack somewhere in it.

Could the problem be something else? Could it be a leak within the sump pump? I'd guess not considering the leak happens when filling but ideas are welcome.

Before you do anything, YOU get down and look under the machine while it's filling. You may find that it's nothing more than the water inlet connection.

Good idea, I'll be sure to check it but I neglected to mention that I had a plumber doing some other work at my house and he ruled out the intake and piping. Also the water intake is on the left hand corner and the leak is all the way on the other side of the dishwasher. Regardless I agree that I should see the problem with my own two eyes and I'll report back what I find.

Ok just stuck my head WAY inside the dishwasher and there's massive corrosion on the heating element, on the right hand side. I suspect this is my problem. If it's not, then it'll surely become a problem soon! It's also very bloated on the corroded side.
