When started dishwasher leaks underneath, into my garage! Should my first action be to remove the machine and check for loose connections?

I would not remove the machine.
I would remove the kick plate and take a look.
A flashlight and a small mirror can help locate the leak.
The best mirror is the type that mechanics use, like a dentist's mirror but larger.
You could just tape a mirror to a piece of wood doweling.

This will let you see up into the unit as often where it drips from is not where the leak is.

Thanks for the comeback. I checked with a mirror underneath as per your suggestion. Th leak appears to come from the center of the machine and starts almost as soon as the pump runs. No water going into the machine. All the hose connections appear to be secure. There is a lot of water coming out. I have checked the filters inside the machine and they appear to be clean. I'm guessing the pump housing or where it is attached to the machine itself. Any ideas?
Thanking you in advance.

If it leaking when the water is lower than the main seal then I would say that this seal is OK.
Sounds like it is in the pump but am just guessing.
You may have to pull it and dry it as best you can to narrow it down.

AppliancePartsPros does sell parts for this unit but do not have access to the parts breakdown drawings. If you go to the Sears site they have them.

I cannot cross reference the Kenmore model number back to a Whirlpool number but I believe the pumps are the same as yours in the following manual though not 100% sure.
Whirlpool 8178741 2008 Undercounter Dishwasher Service Manual - ApplianceDigest.com
You have to join the site to download the manual but it is free and this is a very good site for manuals and other info for the appliance repair DIYer.

Hi. I tried your link but when the site opened I got this message;

[#10869] You do not have access to this section of the site.

I signed up for an account and entered your model number but search result showed a gas clothes washer!

Maybe you could post the link again?

thanks for your help

Service manual for a gas clothes washer?
I would like to see a copy of that. ;)

I just check the link and it's working fine and it downloads the correct file.

Being a 20.6MB file it's large and will take some time to download.

HI, just received these parts from Sears (see pics). I was able to get them, to agree to fix my machine for $134.00 including parts, visits etc. Took a lot of work and a post to face Book to get it done but so far so good. They will be here tomorrow to do the installation.
