Default Scale Buildup from Hard Water
Model Number: GU1200XTKQ0   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 5 - 10 years

This does not qualify as a repair issue but when you have scale that has plugged the spray arms, it is time to disassemble the dishwasher to clean it. The video was very, very helpful showing the removal of the cover to get to the grinder - THANKS!

How or what is the best product to remove the scale from a DW? Our water is hard and combined with the high pH and high water temperature in the DW, scale is inevitable. I have new spray arms order and I am considering installing a water softener ahead of my water heater but what do I do now to get the scale out of the DW?

I would recommend to use a regular white vinegar.

Without dishes and soap start the dishwasher, wait until it filled with water (3 to 5 minutes), open the door and pour a gallon of a vinegar in the water on the bottom.

Do not restart the dishwasher for about 12 hours to let a vinegar dissolve a calcium.

One time is not enough. You have to do it a few times.

Happy New year.

Gene.
