Our Whirlpool dishwasher will not drain the water. About 3 inches always remains after each cycle. My husband said the lines are not plugged. Would this be the pump going bad? Is it worth it to buy a new pump or new dishwasher?

Hi,

Not to say that your husband is wrong, but did he remove and inspect #15 in this diagram for your dishwasher?
Pump and motor parts replacement parts for WHIRLPOOL DU945PWPQ2 UNDERCOUNTER DISHWASHER | AppliancePartsPros.com

#15 Check Valve
WHIRLPOOL Check Valve, part number: AP2910020

It's very common to find stuff in there restricting the flow. The dishwasher drain cycle is timed and runs for only so long, if there is a restriction anyplace in the drain line it will not be able to pump all the water out in time.

He's checking the valve now for blockage. If the valve area is not blocked, are we looking towards the pump being shot?

The check valve is ok and there is no blockage at all. Are we looking at pump issues at this point?
