Angry Drain Pump
Model Number: SHU4306   Brand: Bosch   Age: 1 - 5 years

My otherxise faultless dw stopped draining. So I checked the drain hose to be sure the outlet into the garbage disposer was clear. Good. Checked drain hoses for crimps or obstruction. Good. Ran self-check diagnostics. No faults except had to manually bail out gallons of water from tank base. Wrestled dw out of cabinet and took extensive on the job training in draining and gaining access to components of dw. Checked resistance on drain motor. Measured 16.5 ohms which indicated good. Checked control board for possible cold solder joints or burnt connections; none found. Finally discovered cover plate over drain impeller in bottom of collector in tank and removed plate. Manually turning sprocket felt like turning sandy blades in bucket of loose bolts and springs. Not smooth. Presumed bearing had failed. Have ordered new pump ($64) and expecting new joys in hand cuts trying to install. Hoping for reincarnated trouble-free dish-maid. Lesson learned: access mechanical shafts on motors and check for free-wheeling when possible. If circulation pump fails, may have to find more serviceable dw.
