My Maytag dishwasher is overflowing during the wash cycle. When I cancel out of the wash cycle, it drains the tub as is should. The float is not binding and is free to move up and down. Please tell me how I may troubleshoot it -- I am guessing it is either the float switch or the water valve, but wasn't sure how to determine which it is. Thanks.

Remove the bottom panel and check the float switch for continuity with the float in the up position.

Replace if it's closed.

Check if the water continues to flow when electrical power is turned off.
If it does, replace the water inlet valve.

- The part number for the float switch is AP3140469

In order to find the right part number for the water inlet valve I need the complete serial number of the dishwasher.

Gene.
