Float palnut help (Maytag dishwasher)?
Model Number: MDC5100AWE Brand: Maytag Age: 5 - 10 years
My Maytag MDC5100AWW has a slow trickling leak from the tub, through the float stem, dripping onto the float switch. There was a little, corroded-looking metal part lying on the float switch itself. I figured out via diagrams that this must be the float palnut, and that the usual cause of these sort of leaks is either a crack in the housing causing weird water spray, or a damaged lower wash arm spraying water straight at the float switch. I checked the tub but there were no cracks, and since it's a few years old, it didn't surprise me that it was having issues with the lower wash arm.
I ordered a replacement float palnut and lower wash arm. Installing the wash arm was fine, but I'm not sure how to install the float palnut. Do I slide it on the float stem and push it as far up as it will go? It's bowl-shaped - does the "bottom" of the bowl point toward the floor or toward the top of the float?
Thanks!
