Model Number: MDB7100AWW Brand: Maytag Age: 5 - 10 years
The machine will fill and stop. The timer will cycle through to the end, but there is no function, no motor noise, etc.
There is just a tick tock clicking noise in the door panel every couple minutes. At the end the CLEAN and Keypad 2 lights will blink steadily. The wiring harness in the door was recently replaced by Maytag under a recall. When I try the DRAIN/Off button the display shows cycle time and I can hear a relay clicking on the circuitboard in the door controls, but the pump motor does not come on. I suspect maybe a failed relay on the circuit board or failed motor. There is some (heat) discoloration near two resistors on the cicuit board. The motor armature spins easily (not jammed). Any ideas? |

Remove the bottom panel and check if the power is coming to the motor.
If there is power then replace the pump & motor assembly. If there is no power then the control board has to be replaced. - The part number for the control board AP3158621 To find the right part number for the pump & motor assembly I need you to post the serial number of the dishwasher. - Here are the break down diagrams for the Maytag dishwasher Model MDB7100AWW Gene.

Thanks for your prompt reply, Gene.
If I unplug the lead to the motor and check there? If I read the diagram correctly.... At the start of the cycle, after fill, I should expect power across BU and GY leads?(WASH) S/N is 15899926yu |

You can do the motor continuity test. From BU to all others suppose to be some resistance. If any of the motor winding is open - the motor is bad.
The power should come to the main winding as well as to the wash (BU & GY and BU & Y). - The part number for the pump & motor assembly AP403850 Gene.

Thank you, Gene.
You were absolutely correct! No power at the motor plug-at either winding. So, I went to the board. Figured I had nothing to lose, so I removed the cover of the power relay. The points supports had warped enough that the contacts couldn't close. I just bent the support a little, and voila! No more dishpan hands! Thanks again! I will keep you in mind when it really croaks. |
