Default Sound Deadening Black Falling off machine
Model Number: GU980SCGB2   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 5 - 10 years

Came across an interesting problem!

The dishwasher would not allow water to flow into the machine at the start of the cycle. Before I started to toubleshoot electrical issues, I played around with the float switch. It seemed like it didn't want to go down all the way. When I could get it to stay down, the machine cycled fine. So, I took the bottom access panels off and found that there was black rubber strips near the float switch accuator. I believe that these are some type of sound deadening material that was previously installed on the side and top of the dishwasher (from looking at their schematic drawings).

I moved the material out of the way and the problem went away.

I don't think that there is necessarily a fix for reinstalling the black material, but if anyone knows of a fix, I would be interested in hearing about it.
Thanks
