Our Kitchenaid Dishwasher started making noises about a month ago during *any and every cycle*. In other words, from the minute its full of water and starts washing, draining, rinsing, etc... It makes a very loud dry bearing type sound.

I have deduced that its the motor itself, as when I pulled the dishwasher away from the wall and looked underneath, its apparent that something had a slow leak for a while. It never leaked enough to make it from under the dishwasher for me to noice, but just enough to get the motor all wet. I bet the bearings/something rusted. Ironically, this all started when I got back for a 3 week vacation - probably enough time for water to sit down there on the motor and rust.

I have found the motor part #3376765. About $150 new, wowza.

How can I be absolutely sure its the motor? Also, can I replace the motor without disassembling the whole sump from the tub itself? Any tips or advice would be very graciously appreciated!!!

Well, Im glad Im not the type to wait for any kind of response or I would still have a broken dishwasher

I removed the motor/pump from the dishwasher (very easy by the way - 4 tabs rotate, and then you lift up on the motor - be sure to disconnect the wires & note their location and remove the waste hose). When I spun the motor by hand, you could feel the roughness and hear it grinding. Yup, my motor bearings were shot!

Good news is this guy that lives across the canal from me owns an appliance repair chain. Got me the motor and pump assy. brand new for a song and a dance and warrantied it for a year! Putting it back in was a breeze. When re-installing it, be sure to put some dishsoap on the big rubber seal. Helps on installation and helps it seal.

After all was said and done, the dishwasher has never been this quiet. I guess its a keeper after all!!

Hope this thread helps somebody, out there, somehow! Cheers!
