Bosch diswasher SMU2046 stalled, not draining

April 19, 2009 in fixingshit | No comments (edit)

my troubleshooting so far:
normal operation facts:
-the timer terminal 1b goes hi(120v) to turn on the drain motor.
-the normal cycle starts by draining
data:
-there is power and I can hear the timer motor
-the drain motor armature spins freely by hand
-the motor gnd goes to gnd
-120v shows up on timer terminal 1b and on the drain motor terminal connected to it.
puzzle:
-there is another connection to the drain motor with 3 wires connected. Could their status be keeping the motor from running? They go to the solenoid, capacitor and hi-limit. I read 120v there when I turn the dw on.
-it is weird there is no water level switch.
I don’t really want to buy a new drain motor unless I’m sure.

OK, the motor has 3 terminals, a + an N and a gnd. The 3 wires connect to the neutral which is part of the return path for the drain, motor, the solenoid...

The problem with the SMU20 series Bosch diswashers is the the wires in the wiring harness get stressed to breaking inside the wiring harness wrapper that guides the wires around the hinging door section. They are all breaking.

a new harness should fix it
