I continue to get a white slime buid up in my dishwasher. When it first appeared It looked like someone had left a can or bottle with a lable on it and the label has come off and cloggged the water jets. I knew that something wasn't working right because after washing all plastic ware (gladware etc) has a waxy opaque film deposited on it. I took the entire innerds of the dishwasher apart and found this thick paper like white slime coating everything. In some places (under the water level float and strainer basket) it would build up as a thick goey deposit. I scrubbed and cleaned oue all of it that I could. I een used scrub brushes to reach into the water jets. Then I ran several bleach solutions through my dishwasher. Now approximately 3 months later it is back and coating everything again. It has a foul smell and once again the plastic is left with a film on it.

Did the unit ever work OK?

Had you changed your detergent brand or type and then the problem showed up a couple moths later?
In my opinion the old fashioned powder detergent is still the best.

Do you run it on an energy saving cycle. If yes try a cycle where it heats the water.

Check the temperature of the water entering the unit, should be at least 120 degrees F.

Did anything change in the plumbing before this happened re: a new water softener etc.

Here is a good link, check out 7, 22 and 28

Drain some water out of your hot water tank to see if the slime is also there.

The unit used to work very well. Others would even comment on how well it cleaned the dishes.

We have used the same brand and style of powder detergent that came with the unit as a sample (Cascade Complete)

We used to use "smart wash," now we use pots and pans to try and hold off the build up of slime for a little bit longer.

I'll check the temperature. We haven't made an intentional change in the hot water temp. We typically let the water run in the sink in order to make sure the hot water is in the line and up to the dishwasher before putting it on.

The only plumbing change that was made was we replaced our garbage disposal. I didn't consider this a variable because I think the problem started before we made the change.
