Model Number: du940qwdb4 Brand: Whirlpool Age: More than 10 years
when taking out the internal pump parts to clean out under the plastic internal pump (alot of dark grimy accumulation down there) i found a number of porceline pieces clogging some of the waterways.
however in taking the pump apart, i found that the plastic impeller had deteriorated and it came apart in a number of pieces. i ordered the replacement chopper impeller kit and attempted replacement. with this kit came the pump shaft seal which i also replaced. upon adding water, i have a significant leak around the pump motor shaft which was not previously there. is there a trick to getting the pump seal to seat properly? Does installing the pump seal require some sort of sealant, caulk, or glue? even though the dishwasher has some age, it runs and cleans great and i thought cleaning out the grime and bits of porceline would help keep it that way.
