Question Breaker trips
Model Number: GU1100XTLQ1   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: Less than 1 year

Dishwasher will run for about 45 seconds then it makes a loud pop noise. Then a few seconds later it will pop the house breaker. And if you reset breaker it will repeat the noise and pop the breaker. It must have something to do with the heating element when it kicks in. Any ideas?

Make that less than 3 years old.

thanks

Hi Jim

If your dishwasher got shorted out within first minute it has nothing to do with the heating element because it is not powered up yet

The dishwasher starts with fill cycle for about 11/2 minute, then the wash pump will get engaged.

The first thing I would check are the wires under the dishwasher and inside the door for a damaged insulation and possible shortage.

Post your findings, please.

Good luck.
Gene.

The dishwasher belongs to my daughter. I when over to check it out. It did have water in the tub. I drained the water and tried the washer it was a dead short now. I disconnected the wires to the heating element and it runs OK. When I was disconnecting the wires some water leaked out. I not sure if I caused that problem by maybe beaking the seal or not. But once I unplugged the element the short when away. The element looks OK. No cracks and the element did heat up when I was testing the dishwasher. Any ideas?

thamks

Check the continuity between each of the heating element terminals and the ground. Replace it if there is any continuity.
I believe, due to water leak it's better to replace the heating element in any way.

Run the same test for the hi limit thermostat.

The hi limit thermostat

Check all wires.

- The part number for the heating element AP3884745

- The part number for the hi limit thermostat AP3010530

- Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool dishwasher Model GU1100XTLQ1

Good luck.
Gene.
