Default leaking dishwasher
Model Number: gu940scgq2   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 1 - 5 years

Not sure If you got my first message. I have a leak from my dishwasher when the drain cycle comes on. Its not from any hose, but I looks like It comes from above the motor and below the tub. In between those areas. Is this something I can fix and do I need any special tools. O yes also some times the dishwasher starts a new wash cycle by itself after the drain cycle. Please help.

Default Leaky Dishwasher - Ever solved?

Hey Verne:

Came across your post while googling for a similar problem I'm having with my GU940SCGQ2 whirlpool - were you ever able to solve this? Thanks, in advance...

Chances are the pump or seals are leaking. neither requires special tools and you should be able to look up a breakdown of your dishwashers on this site.

Default Leaking dishwasher - Thanks...

....for quick reply Liberty Appl (Nat). That looks exactly like what's happening - the pump is leaking. When I took off the toe panel assembly, and watched what happened when I let the dishwasher run for about thirty seconds and then drained it, I felt a little mist of spray on my face and I saw a little water leaking from the bottom of the pump. Do I need to take the pump itself apart to replace the seals - how complicated a job is that? Or is it something simpler...

TIA...

- Dave

The easiest way for me to fix it is to remove the lower spray arm & disconnect all the wires from underneath connected to the pump & motor and lift it right out. Trust me if I can do it you can!
Just a quick note we feel that this is one of the best pump & motor the Whirlpool has made!
As I stated before you can look at the parts breakdown from the Find Parts page. You can see how it goes together.

Default Okay...

....thanks for your replies again, Natalie. Let me make sure I understand the recommended course of action here...

Follow the parts assembly chart I found on this site, and your instructions in previous post, lift out and disassemble the pump/motor, replace any worn seals I find within, reassemble, reinstall. Sounds pretty straightforward...

I'm not scared!

Let me know if I'm misunderstanding anything....

Thanks!

That's basically it.....I've done a few of these myself so you can do it. Just make sure the pump housing itself isn't leaking and that it's only the seals. Make sure to check your impeller and choppers while you have them out.
